ABOUT ME

Stefania Vasconcellos is an award-winning Latina writer, director, and producer based in Los Angeles.

Growing up in a small condo in Brazil, she was fortunate to be surrounded by a household filled with diverse tastes and passions. This eclectic environment makes her passionate and deeply interested in exploring human psychology and its impact on society and relationships.

From comedy to drama and genre movies, her goal as a director is to deliver powerful social messages through an authentic, thought-provoking style.

She began her artistic career as an actress and dancer before discovering her passion for filmmaking. After completing her theater studies at TEPA (Theatre School of Porto Alegre), she moved to Rio de Janeiro, where she earned her degree in Film Directing from Darcy Ribeiro Film School.

During her time in Rio, she had the opportunity to collaborate with talented directors and worked on several films and advertising projects, gaining experience in various departments, including production, wardrobe direction, art design, first assistant directing, and editing.

Her portfolio includes a couple of award-winning short films, including "No Caminho Dos Pés" (The Way), which was shown at more than 30 festivals worldwide and was the sole Brazilian short film entry in the Stockholm Film Festival in 2014. She co-directed a film project under Executive Producer James Franco, and her debut feature film, "The French Teacher," premiered at the Edera Film Festival in Treviso, Italy, where it won the "Artistic Direction Award." The film has also been selected for numerous festivals globally, including the Flying Broom Film Festival in Turkey, where it was part of the prestigious FIPRESCI Prize selection. Recently, she completed her second feature film, "Nobody Wants To Be Just Ordinary," which is now available on VOD.

Stefania was recently selected for the 2024 THE NEXT GEN DIVERSITY Mentorship Program as a mentee, and she also advocates for diversity and equality. In all her films, she ensures that at least 50% of the crew are women, with the majority of them being Latinas. She's also interested in astrology, numerology, and tarot decks—and she swears she has already seen a few UFOs.
